New Baldness Cure?

Maybe you saw the news today about mouse hair.

Specifically, scientists figured out how mammals generate new hair follicles.

Why do we care how mice grow new fur when they”re injured? Because any news about hair loss (even fur) gets attention — it’’s a huge business.

Doctors think what they”ve learned could lead to treatments for baldness.

It turns out that when mice lose their fur in an injury, stem cells head for the wound to create new hair. So researchers are trying to figure out how to help that process along with various procedures and drugs.

The catch is that the treatment would involve wounding the scalp (”derm abrasion”) to stimulate the new growth. The other catch is that treatment on humans is years away — though they”re hoping to start trials in a year or so.

If you”re losing your hair — or worrying about it — remember there are a few treatments that you don”t have to wait years for. Like a good haircut.

Here’’s what you need to know.
