Men Hair Style that Women Prefer
There’s a very hairy fold-out surprise in the 2007 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.
A nude Burt Reynolds in all his fuzzy glory, reprinted in a Direct TV advertisement from his famous 1979 Playgirl centerfold.
The blaring hairiness of the photo is contrary to the sleek, shaved look of today’s American male, at least the ones we see in commercials.
But what do women really prefer when it comes to men’s hair? Long locks or a razor-clean head?
“Hair. Everywhere,” said Steph-anie Wendt of Fond du Lac.
The 34-year-old said her husband, who shall remain nameless because he just “Naired”
his back, recently shaved his head as part of a cancer fund-raiser, so she’s had a chance to try out the best of both worlds.
“Hair brings out facial features with the eyebrows connecting everything. You definitely need something to run your hands through,” Wendt said.
Bald looks nice on black men, said 19-year-old Heather Mittelstaedt of Waupun.
“It looks natural, in fact it looks really amazing. On white guys, it just looks pale,” she noted.
Shoulder-length is how Becky Muckerheide, also 19 and of Waupun, likes the locks on her men.
“As long as it is styled, it’s something to play with and touch. I don’t even mind pink hair on men. To me it shows they are comfortable with their masculinity,” she said.
She wonders what a girl would do with a bald head.
“Play nuggies?” she suggests.
Military-style haircuts, clipper cuts and quite a few flat-tops, believe it or not, are what local men are asking for when they go to Ann Wentworth, owner of Art the Barber, 187 S. Military Road. Most of her clients range in age from 30 to 70.
“I don”t shave all that many heads, although I do have a few regular customers whom I do, with the straight razor, of course. They look sharp, and are unique to each man, as each head is shaped differently,” she said.
Personally, she prefers a full beard that is nicely trimmed compared with the trendy goatee.
A little shaggy is OK, and long “mutton chop” sideburns are a must, all the way down the face until they form a goatee, said Becca Thompson, 20, of Waupun.
“I like short and clean,” she said.
Dreads (dreadlocks) are out, especially strands that are super-glued, gelled long hair on guys, or hair that looks like a “rat’s nest,” said Natalie Breuer 18, of Fond du Lac.
“What looks good on a guy depends on their facial structure. If a guy looks good bald, it’s OK,” she said.
A little gel, the front spiked up and bangs…that’s how Adam Flood, 20, of Waupun wear his hair. He thinks it’s what women like.
“I don’t like any of that long, hippie stuff. Women around here prefer clean-cut, in my opinion,” he said.
All the women shuddered at the thought of men shaving their entire bodies, especially their chests.
“Kind of freaky,” they agreed.
