How to Minimize Hair Damage

How to Minimize Hair DamageHair damage will get to you sooner or later. Like all parts of our bodies it is exposed to the conditions of the environment like the sun, dust, and humidity. To put it simply: you can’t escape hair damage. BUT! You can learn to minimize it by following simple tips:

  • If you spend too much time under the sun, we recommend that you wear a hat. A hat will block those harmful rays.
  • Don’t abuse hair styling products. As you may know most of these contain chemical ingredients that in the long term can provoke hair damage. In any case, prefer natural formulated products.
  • Avoid colouring your hair, or if you do it, have a professional stylist make it. This will ensure minimum damage is done to the hair.
  • Use a conditioner every two days. A conditioner will revitalize your hair and leave it soft but washing your hair a lot can also lead to hair damage because you don’t allow it to recover essential oils.
  • Dry your hair by patting it with a towel – don’t rub it. And once your hair is drier, let it dry completely natural. Blow dryers can in fact damage your hair if you don’t really know what you are doing.

Well there you have, some simple tips you can start using today to give a better life to your hair. Of course you can always go to a specialized salon to get a revitalizing treatment!

Types of Hair

The first step to treat your hair the right way, involves getting to know it.  It is much like skin care: you have to know whether your skin is dry, oily or a combination and proceed from there.

Hair can be classified in 6 types:

  • Dry Hair
  • Greasy / Oily Hair
  • Thick Hair
  • Thin / Fine Hair
  • Curly Hair
  • Wild Hair

The classification of each hair type is based on factors such as moisture, brightness and elasticity.  Determining the hair type will also determine the treatment.  You can read more about hair types on our updated article at the main site: Men’s Hair Types.
